The new amending legislation, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, received Royal Assent in late June, and is now, bit by bit, on its way to becoming law.
The DUAA makes changes to existing legislation (like the GDPR and PECR) that everybody responsible for data protection in the UK needs to be aware of. The way we safeguard data is changing, and unless you take the time to make sure you understand your new obligations, you’re putting yourself in danger of falling short of compliance.
So, what’s changed? What amendments have been made to the regulations we’ve become so familiar with, and how does this affect us?
In this hour-long session, you’ll be given a handy breakdown of numerous significant changes, and learn how to interpret these and put them into action.

Subject access requests (SARs) can build up quickly and unexpectedly, and before you know it, there’s a sizeable backlog of requests to respond to before their respective deadlines.
Organisations are required to comply with SARs without undue delay, or at the latest, within one month of receiving the request (or any information required to confirm the requesters identity, or even a fee in certain cases). And when you’re busy and have a million other tasks to focus on, this month can feel like no time at all.
So how do you beat the clock while responding to each request with the attention, accuracy, and care they deserve?
In this hour-long session, you’ll learn how you can respond to SARs appropriately, and in a timely and efficient manner that makes worrying about SAR deadlines a thing of the past.

Have you ever felt at all stuck on which of the six lawful bases set out in the GDPR best applies to your processing activity?
Businesses process data all the time for a variety of purposes, from marketing to simply carrying out business operations as usual. But while your reason for using this data may be clear, what might make you stop in your tracks for a moment is just which of the lawful bases is most appropriate for what you’re doing. It can be difficult to know which one best applies to your situation.
Is there legitimate interest? Did the subject give valid consent? What’s the answer?

Engage, Educate, Empower 2025 was our third annual data protection and information security conference, bringing together over a hundred privacy professionals for a day of learning, discussing, and networking.
The event took place at The Paintworks venue in Bristol and featured talks from a range of the industry’s most renowned experts. These guest speakers gave talks on topics such as special category data, accountability, and AI (to name just a few).
With a room packed full of delegates from all over the country — representing various corners of the public, private, and third sectors — this conference was a great success. It allowed us to connect with and learn from a wealth of practitioners with a wide array of perspectives, and after such an amazing day, we can’t wait to host our next event.

Cookies are an essential part of most websites. They serve a range of functions, from analytics to advertising. However, their use must align with privacy laws, which aim to protect individuals from unwanted tracking and unauthorised use of their personal data.
Non-compliance with these laws, particularly the PECR and the ePrivacy Directive, can lead to fines and reputational harm.
So how can your organisation maintain compliance to avoid these consequences?

Does your organisation have a business continuity plan (BCP) in place, should a crisis ever arise?
And if so, does this BCP include data protection as a priority?
Integrating data protection into your BCP is vital to being prepared for the unthinkable. What if your organisation fell victim to a cyber attack, putting the information of your customers and staff at risk?
Only by taking into account the ways in which your data could be compromised in an unexpected incident and including a plan of remediation and recovery action into your BCP can you be truly prepared.
