A New Chapter of Growth: Strategic Leadership Expansion

In 2017, the foundation of the Data Privacy Advisory Service (DPAS) was laid with a clear focus on investing in our greatest asset – People. The journey began with a remarkable first hire, Mel Garnett, whose tenacity and leadership qualities have been pivotal in shaping DPAS into the entity it is today.

As we stand seven years later, our ambition has only grown stronger. Our corporate vision is set on doubling our size by the end of 2025, with a specific emphasis on leading in Data Protection and AI support. To achieve this, we realised the need to enhance our strategic leadership and expand our leadership team. This expansion is aimed at providing robust support to our team, propelling our growth and reinforcing our commitment to excellence in data protection.

A new member of the team

Today, we are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in this journey. Effective from 1st January 2023, Emma Martins joins DPAS as a Non-Executive Strategic Advisor to our CEO, Mel Garnett. Emma has worked in data protection for over 25 years. Starting her career as a data protection officer in the public sector, she moved to work in the regulatory office for Jersey, Channel Islands, in 2002. Since then, she has been Commissioner for Jersey and, since 2018, for the Bailiwick of Guernsey, where she worked with a team responsible for implementation, oversight, and adequacy assessment for the new GDPR-standard legal framework for the Islands.

Emma’s role will encompass providing leadership and business support and expert advice on complex data protection issues, ensuring DPAS stays at the forefront of industry advancements and regulatory compliance.

Emma is also deeply committed to guiding DPAS in the implementation of ethical data practices, something that we understand the true value of – not just from an economical business perspective, but also when it comes to contributing to societal welfare, and doing our part to ensure privacy, equity and inclusivity.

An exciting look to the future

Overall, this appointment marks a significant step in our strategic expansion and commitment to delivering unparalleled expertise in data protection and privacy. We warmly welcome Emma to the DPAS leadership team. Her expertise and keen vision are invaluable assets to our mission, and we eagerly anticipate the synergies and ground-breaking results this partnership will yield.

Together, we move forward in our quest to lead and innovate in the ever-evolving landscape of Data Protection and AI support.

I am extremely excited about this partnership with Emma.
